About Us

April 18, 2016

Coos Bay Area Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization.

Vision: A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Mission statement: Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build affordable, safe, and environmentally conscious homes. Our mission here at Coos Bay Area Habitat is based on the belief that no one should have to live in substandard housing. With the help of everyday people like yourself, we come one step closer to achieving that goal every day.

Volunteers help provide most of the labor, while individual and corporate donors provide the money and materials necessary to build our Habitat homes and complete our critical home repairs. To date, Coos Bay Area Habitat for Humanity has provided 24 families, 33 adults and 58 children, a hand-up out of substandard housing and completed almost 20 critical home repairs.  This year we will break ground on our 25th home!

Our programs do NOT provide people with handouts, but rather a hand-up out of substandard housing. Our partner families invest hundreds of hours of “sweat equity” into new home construction builds; critical home repair recipients also invest “sweat equity.” Families receiving new homes or critical home repairs pay back their zero percent interest loans at affordable rates. This hand-up not only helps our families, but the community as well – empty lots become affordable homes, existing housing stock is preserved, and homeowners’ property taxes help to support our local schools and government.
